Although I believe that MSTV is a critical part of .NET, I haven't seen anything from Bill Gates echoing Jon DeVaan's message here:
Through our .NET effort, we plan to enable a better way of building services for television -- the world's most ubiquitous device -- making it easier to integrate with existing business systems and popular consumer devices including handheld devices, mobile phones, PCs and more.
Note that this diagram of .NET does not include "the world's most ubiquitous device".

This industry is ripe for strategic partnerships. Perhaps the USA TODAY and On Command partnership is a no-brainer, but relationships between content providers and technology providers are critical to the success of interactive television.
USA TODAY News Center enables hotel guests to view the latest national news, weather, and local information via a high-speed Internet connection. Much like the Internet, guests can select the information they would like to see, when they want to see it.
